What NZ dating and chat sites really cost in 2026

Monthly subscriptions add up. We compared what NZDating, AdultFriendFinder and the swipe apps charge — and explain why myQR is $14.99 once, with no renewals.

Most dating and chat sites in New Zealand are free to join and then charge a subscription for the parts people actually use. That's a fair business model, but it's easy to lose track of — especially when memberships renew automatically.

Here's what the main options cost, checked on 11 October 2026, and what you get for free.

What a year looks like

If you keep a monthly subscription running for a year:

  • NZDating Gold monthly: 12 × $18.95 = $227.40 (or $69.95 if you pay for 12 months up front).
  • AdultFriendFinder Gold monthly: around US$300 a year at the one-month rate.
  • myQR: $14.99, once. There's nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.

To be fair to the others: NZDating's free tier genuinely lets you message people, and plenty of people never pay for a swipe app. If free works for you, great. The catch is the features that make a site feel alive — seeing who's around, being seen, extras in chat — usually sit behind the subscription.

Why we charge $14.99 once

We built myQR as chat rooms first: a wide range of rooms, a contact list that shows who's online, and private messages. We wanted one price that covers all of it, because:

  1. A small entry fee keeps out most bots and spammers. Free sites fight a constant battle with fake accounts.
  2. No renewals means no "forgot to cancel" charges. You pay once and you're in.
  3. Everyone gets the same features. No gold stars, no paid "boosts", no ranking above other people because you paid more.

We take payment in crypto only (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, USDT and others). That's partly because many card processors won't work with sites that offer adult chat at all, and partly because a one-off crypto payment has no stored card to bill again. If you've never paid with crypto, our plain-English guide walks you through it.

What to check before you pay for any site

  • Does it renew? Look for "auto-renew" in the terms, and note the date.
  • Which currency? US-dollar prices attract a foreign-currency fee from most NZ banks.
  • What's free? Try the free tier for a week before upgrading.
  • How do you leave? You should be able to delete your account yourself, without emailing anyone.
  • What happens to your data? A New Zealand site should explain your rights under the Privacy Act 2020.

The short version

If you want swiping and big numbers, the apps are free to try. If you want chat rooms, a contact list and private messages for less than the price of a month elsewhere, myQR is $14.99 once.
